Minor in African Studies
The African studies minor at SIUE is an interdisciplinary program aimed at developing students’ knowledge and understanding of African people, their lands, history, culture and socio-economic institutions. It will provide the student with the opportunity to fully appreciate the global impacts of African humanities. Furthermore, an African studies background will prepare students for informed global experience characterized by culturally diverse groups. Students desiring a minor in African studies must complete nine credit hours of required core courses and nine credit hours of elective courses for a total of 18 credit hours. Courses not on this list may be acceptable if approved by the African Studies Coordinator. Any of the listed courses already counted toward a student’s major cannot be counted again for this minor.
