Welcome to the Department of History!
The Department of History at SIUE offers a vibrant curriculum in undergraduate and graduate studies. Undergraduate history majors can earn a Bachelor’s degree in history, certification to teach social studies at the secondary level, and certification in Museum Studies. All majors complete a capstone research project with guidance from our faculty. History majors from SIUE go on to teach at the secondary level, pursue graduate school in history, law, or other fields, and work in businesses, governments and institutions around the world. Students leave our program with a firm grounding in history and have excellent communication and critical thinking skills.
Master's students complete a year-long curriculum in historiography and advance research techniques. SIUE also offers a PhD program in conjunction with Southern Illinois University Carbondale. SIUE history graduate students take their solid foundation in history to acclaimed PhD programs throughout the country, work in museums and archives, or go on to success in businesses, government, the law and non-profits.
