Amy Thomas
Providing over 20 years of experience in the nonprofit sector, Amy J. Thomas, MPA, CHES joined the Public Administration and Policy Analysis Program as a lecturer in 2011. She teaches MPA elective courses in areas of Employee Motivation, Grantsmanship, Healthcare Management, Nonprofit Administration, Nonprofit Organizational Development, Public Relations & Marketing and Volunteer Administration.
Ms. Thomas currently serves as a Development Manager for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society (NMSS) providing services in a 90-county bi-state region simultaneously managing a 1.1M development portfolio. Prior to joining the NMSS, she served as the Director of Admissions and Community Outreach for Family Hospice coordinating business and community development and marketing/public relations initiatives for a six-county service area. From 2000-2009, Thomas was the Director of Health & Wellness Services for SSM DePaul Health Center providing P&L oversight of $4.2M, supervising 60 direct reports, 9 departments and practice management for Bariatric specialty surgeons. Chestnut Health Systems provided the springboard for her nonprofit career where she worked as a Prevention Specialist in Madison and Venice, IL with middle school youth.
Beyond her career profile, she has provided board leadership in a variety of nonprofit sectors: Parochial school board, community & senior centers, chamber of commerce’s, leadership development programs and civic organizations. Thomas is the recipient of the SSM Christian Identity Award, NCCU Racial Harmony & Justice Award, Kimmel Leadership Award and is a two-time Paul Harris Fellow.
