Dr. Joel Hardman
Joel Hardman earned his Ph.D. in Educational Linguistics at the University of Pennsylvania. His scholarly interests include language and literacy acquisition, language teaching pedagogy, sociolinguistics, teacher development, and the schooling of language-minority children in the United States. He has published numerous articles and book chapters on family literacy development in multi-lingual environments, English teacher education, and second language writing, and has published one book (with Seran Dogancay-Aktuna) on Global English Teaching and Teacher Education. He teaches courses at the graduate level at Southern Illinois University in ESL methods, language assessment, language and culture, and ESL teacher development. On the undergraduate level, he has taught introductory linguistics, the grammar of English, and first-year composition.
