Laurie L. Rice
Laurie L. Rice is a Professor of Political Science at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, where she teaches classes in American politics, including the presidency, voting and elections, political parties and interest groups, public opinion, and media and politics. She graduated magna cum laude with a B.A. in Government and English: writing (with a minor in music) from the University of Redlands. She received her M.A. and Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of California, San Diego.
Rice’s research interests span several subfields of American politics. She is co-author of the books The Political Voices of Generation Z (2022) and Web 2.0 and the Political Mobilization of College Students (2016) and co-editor of American Political Parties Under Pressure: Strategic Adaptations for a Changing Electorate (2017). Her research also appears in academic journals such as Presidential Studies Quarterly, Social Science Computer Review, and Social Science Quarterly. Rice partners with civic groups to increase civic education and engagement, and she also provides expertise on elections, social media, and the presidency to regional, national, and international media. She has written pieces for The Hill, The Huffington Post, and the St. Louis Post Dispatch.
Once a California native, Rice now lives in the St. Louis area. She enjoys traveling the world in her spare time and has recently taken up bird watching, which allows her to combine her love of nature, being outdoors, and photography.
