Dr. Ariel Hooker Jones is beginning her sixth year at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (SIUE) as an assistant professor in the Department of Social Work. Originally from East St. Louis, IL, Dr. Jones is a first-generation college graduate who earned her BSW from the University of Iowa and her MSW from the University of Illinois: Champaign -Urbana. She then went on to receive her Ph.D. in Family Therapy from St. Louis University School of Medicine.
Dr. Jones is a licensed clinical social worker in Illinois and Missouri, a family therapist, and registered play therapy supervisor. She has gained diverse clinical experience in social work and family therapy through her work in a variety of practice settings including outpatient mental/behavioral health services, early childhood mental health consultation, hospital social work/medical family therapy, and substance abuse treatment.
Throughout her work at SIUE, Dr. Jones has taught a variety of courses across both the BSW and MSW programs, covering topics such as micro practice with individuals, families, and groups, healthcare social work, practicum seminar, and other electives. Her research interests have primarily focused on social work pedagogy and working with marginalized populations.
