Course Description (2.5 day program)
Day 1
Session 1 (AM): Strategic Leadership & Vendor Management
This session emphasizes aligning supply chain practices with organizational strategy and patient outcomes. Participants will explore vendor partnerships, supplier segmentation, scorecards, and negotiation strategies designed to strengthen supplier relationships and organizational performance.
Session 2 (PM): Operational Excellence
This session focuses on effective approaches to inventory management, spend control, and capacity planning. Participants will also apply practical Lean tools including the 5 Whys, fishbone diagrams, and A3 problem-solving to identify root causes of inefficiencies and implement improvements.
Day 2
Session 3 (AM): Process Mapping & Throughput Improvement
Participants will learn proven methods to identify bottlenecks and streamline operations. Techniques such as SIPOC, swimlane, and value-stream mapping will be applied to visualize workflows and uncover delays. Little’s Law and benchmarking will also be introduced to improve throughput and operational performance.
Session 4 (PM): Risk Management & Supply Chain Resilience
This session prepares participants to anticipate and manage disruptions. Topics include building risk heatmaps, conducting tabletop exercises for supply interruptions, and developing actionable failover playbooks that safeguard patient care and organizational continuity.
Day 3
Session 5 (AM): Finance & Value in Healthcare Supply Chain
This capstone session connects supply chain initiatives to financial outcomes. Participants will examine total cost of ownership, working capital implications, DRG margins, and value-based care requirements. Emphasis will be placed on building and presenting ROI-driven business cases to executive leadership. Role-play exercises will allow participants to refine their ability to communicate supply chain value in financial terms.

Individual Course Cancellation and Refund Policy
The SIUE Executive Education division of the School of Business reserves the right to cancel or postpone any course when necessary. If we cancel or postpone a course for any reason, you may choose to receive a FULL refund or apply the course fee to a subsequent offering of the same or a similar course. The latter option may be exercised within one calendar year of the original course.
If you register and pay for a course and then withdraw a one week or more before the start date of the course, a full refund of the course fee less an administrative fee of $25 will be made.
If cancellation occurs less than one week before the start date of the course, no refund of the course fee will be made; however, at the discretion of the Director of Executive Education Programs, the course fee may be applied to a subsequent offering of the same or similar course with a course fee that is at least equal to the cost of the original course. If the course fee of a subsequent course exceeds the amount paid for the original course, the difference in the course fee amounts must be paid in full prior to the start of the subsequent course. An approved substitution must occur within one calendar year of the original course.
