Venice City Collaborative Workforce/Youth Services Program
This program pairs a highly motivated student with one of the six career programs offered here. The programs offered are: SIUE Laboratory Technician Credential, SWIC MasterCam Certificate, SWIC SolidWorks Certificate, SWIC Forklift course, SWIC Warehouse and Distribution Certificate, or SWIC Welding Technology Certificate. More information about each program is listed in the table below. The tuition for the program of choice is covered for all selected participants. Participants will not only learn job skills but also resume writing and interviewing skills. Tutoring services will be available to participants based on a need to ensure the successful completion of a selected program.
Participants will also be paid a $1,000 a month stipend (up to $10,000) for program completion before June 30, 2023. Selected participants will be required to attend 2 night sessions (5:30 pm-7:30 pm) per week based on program selected at Mount Nebo Complex in Madison, Illinois. Transportation to the Mount Nebo sessions will be provided. Participants will also receive a bus pass every month they are still active in their program.
This program is open to:
- Those ages 18-24
- Residents of Madison County (preference given to those in the Venice/Madison/Brooklyn area)

Laboratory Technician Credential | This is a hybrid program with online content and in-person assessments. This program assesses based on skill. One can expect a job in the lab sciences when they complete this program. |
Forklift Course | Provides the student with safety training in the operation of a fork lift truck and also provide knowledge of the OSHA regulations as required by CFR 1910.178 and CFR 1910.179. |
MasterCam Certificate | Students will learn to design and draw machine parts with the use of a computer. From the created drawing the students then will apply tool paths to create a CNC program to be run on a HAAS CNC machine tool. The students will be required to create completed machined parts using this process. |
SolidWorks Certificate | SolidWorks is a leading software package used by many manufactures. Students will use SolidWorks to create solid models of parts that will then be used to manufacture a finished part. |
Warehouse and Distribution Certificate | Skills taught are drawn from typical job skills requirements as determined by needs analysis among leading-edge warehousing and distribution operations. The curriculum consists of five courses, a warehousing and distribution center simulation, and a final assessment of knowledge and skills. |
Welding Technology Certificate | This is designed to train the beginner for entry-level positions in the welding industry. A graduate of this program can be prepared to work as: a welder, fitter, welding technician, or layout position. |
