About Dr. Klein
Dr. Klein obtained her Ph.D. in Health Education from the University of Texas at Austin. Prior to completing her doctoral degree, Dr. Klein worked with low-income pregnant and parenting adolescents, leading to her interest in adolescent sexuality. She teaches undergraduate coursework in community health program planning, program evaluation, contemporary and controversial issues in health, women's health, personal health, and instructional strategies in health education. She was the recipient of the SIUE Teaching Excellence Award in 2012 and the highest national scorer on the Spring 2016 Master Certified Health Education Specialist (MCHES) exam.
Research Profile
Dr. Klein's research focuses on creating sexually healthy individuals through inclusive sexuality education. She is especially interested in improving the experiences of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, questioning, queer and intersex (LGBTQI) individuals. She has an interest in technology and integrates the use of innovative tools in her teaching, service and research. Dr. Klein has published several research articles about mental health, sexuality, and a book chapter related to sexuality education. She has presented her research at many conferences, including the Society for Public Health Education (SOPHE) and the American College Health Association (ACHA).
