About Dr. Xin
Dr. Xin joined the Department of Applied Health at SIUE in Fall, 2011. She obtained her bachelor's degree in Clinical Medicine from the Medical College, Shanghai Fudan University, China and became a registered medical doctor in China in 1999. She practiced medicine both in psychiatry and internal medicine in China for years. In 2007, she received her master's degree in Public Health (MPH) from the Department of Public Health Education, University of North Carolina at Greensboro. In 2011, she received her doctoral degree in Public Health (DrPH) from the same department. She received the 2016 Vaughnie Lindsay New Investigator Award and the 2017 Outstanding Immigrant Health Professional Award.
Research Profile:
Dr. Xin's research interest is mental health disparities in vulnerable populations (e.g., international refugees), as well as public health emergency preparedness. She integrates both quantitative and qualitative research methods, Community-Based Participatory Research (CBPR), and Geographical Information Systems (GIS) into her research studies. She addresses populations’ vulnerabilities to health disparities within social-ecological domains. In addition, she has been actively involved in health-related program evaluation by using CBPR evaluation methodology. Her research studies have been presented/published at both national and international conferences/journals.
