About Dr. Ellis
Dr. Ellis is an Instructor and Internship Coordinator in the Department of Exercise, Sport and Nutrition Sciences. He is completing his PhD in Exercise and Sport Science at Liberty University, earned his Master of Arts in Teaching from McKendree University, and earned his Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville.
Dr. Ellis is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS), and his diverse professional experience in strength and conditioning, health and physical education, coaching, and applied exercise science shapes his approach to teaching. His professional interests include strength and conditioning, athletic performance, exercise programming, and the application of evidence-based practices to improve human performance and health. His teaching philosophy emphasizes connecting scientific principles with practical application to prepare students for careers in exercise science, strength and conditioning, and related health professions.
Dr. Ellis teaches courses within the Exercise Science and Exercise Physiology programs, including Strength and Conditioning, Exercise Assessment and Programming, and other applied exercise science courses. He also serves as the Internship Coordinator for Exercise Science and Exercise Physiology, supporting students through experiential learning opportunities and professional development.
Research Profile
Dr. Ellis’ research interests focus on the relationship between physical activity, sport participation, and health outcomes across diverse populations. His doctoral research examines the impact of sports participation and physical activity on mental health and resilience among high school adolescents. His broader scholarly interests include applied strength and conditioning, exercise programming, athletic development, and the role of evidence-based exercise practices in promoting lifelong health and performance.
