  • Microwaves are allowed in the first-year residence halls. Only one per bedroom with an 800-watt limit. Check with your roommate to see who is bringing one.
  • Reserve a fridge and/or microwave rental for the year at Campus Fridges. Rentals completed by August 1 will be in your room when you arrive for move-in! 
  • While you will have access to the wireless network, we recommend bringing an Ethernet cord to connect to the data jacks in your room for larger devices.
  • The SIUE Residence Housing Association has a partnership with SwakU to provide students and families with a convenient, affordable way to ensure you have sheets that will fit the extra-long mattresses in our residence halls and Cougar Village. Linens are delivered to your home during the summer if ordered by July 22, 2025.  
  • Beds are set at the highest setting (3 feet off the ground) at your arrival. You should only submit a housing work order to request an adjustment if you would like the bed lowered or bunked.

What NOT to Bring

  • full-size refrigerators (only units up to 5.0 cu. ft. are permitted)
  • pets (other than fish in an aquarium, 30 gallon max)
  • firearms or explosive devices
  • controlled substances
  • LED light strip
  • humidifier
  • alcohol containers, empty or full
  • candles 
  • flushable wipes (Flushable wipes are not flushable and not good for the pipes.)
  • ceiling fans
  • space heaters
  • cooking appliances with open elements (i.e. hot plates, toasters, toaster ovens, Foreman Grills)
  • single and multiple-use extension cords (must be U.L. approved outlet strip with fuse or breaker)
  • halogen lamps or desk lamps with a halogen bulb
  • high-volume squirt guns (i.e. “Super Soakers”)
  • wireless router (Personal WIFI signals interfere with the campus WIFI and can adversely impact the wireless network for those around you.)
  • wireless printer (Wireless printers cannot connect to an enterprise wireless network like SIUE’s. Printers that broadcast their wireless signal (e.g. Wireless Direct) can conflict with the campus WIFI and impact the wireless signal of those in your immediate area.  Make sure that you have any cables required to connect your device to your printer.  You can also remotely print to campus printers using SIUE Webprint.)
  • wireless video streaming devices (can be used with wired connection)
