Cascade Is Migrating From Local Hosting To Cloud Hosting
Posted June 19, 2024
by Curt Price
Information Technology Services (ITS) administers and maintains the Cascade CMS, which is Southern Illinois University's website content management system. Cascade allows for departments to maintain the content on their departmental websites without needing to know how to code a web page.
Since SIUE started using Cascade years ago, it has been hosted locally within ITS on it's servers that it owns and maintains, but that is about to change.
Starting on June 28th, ITS and Hannon Hill (Cascade's developer) will begin the process of migrating all of the content at siue.edu, to cloud hosting at Hannon Hill. This move will allow our instance of Cascade to recieve hassle-free installations and upgrades. Hannon Hill will also be able to now provide security, backups and disaster recovery solutions. Troubleshooting any database issues will be far easier for Hannon Hill to handle. And the speed when navigating within Cascade should be improved.
There will be some Cascade down time during the migration. Cascade will be temporarily unavailable from 4:30 PM on Friday, June 28th, until 4:30 PM on Monday, July 8th. This is a rather lenghty outage, so PLEASE ensure that if you maintain any SIUE web pages within Cascade or provide information to be displayed on SIUE web pages to make sure any time-sensitive web page updates are made BEFORE 4:30 PM on June 28th.
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the ITS help desk at 650-5500.
