Nicole Franklin joined SIUE University Marketing and Communications as the director of communications in September 2023. In her role, Nicole leads SIUE’s internal and external communication strategies, and fosters media relationships to help tell the unique benefits and values of an SIUE education.
Prior to joining SIUE, Nicole was the Public Information Officer for the City of St. Louis Department of Public Safety where she was responsible for media relations, press releases, content creation, strategic communications. Earlier in her career, she was a filmmaker, freelance journalist, ghostwriter, and 30-year veteran of local and network news in both Los Angeles and New York.
Nicole earned a bachelor’s in mass communications from the University of Illinois Chicago and completed her master’s degree in liberal studies from Ramapo College of New Jersey.
Nicole continues to be recognized for changing the narrative when it comes to stories featuring communities of color in the United States and indigenous communities in the U.S. and abroad. She is a member of the Directors Guild, Producers Guild, New York Women in Film & Television, Film Fatales, Black Documentary Collective, Writers Guild of America Women of Color Caucus and National Association of Black Journalists.
