SIUE Alumna's Documentary About Her Mother to Screen at St. Louis Filmmakers Showcase
Posted July 20, 2026
Southern Illinois University Edwardsville alumna Carson Crow will screen her documentary about her late mother at the St. Louis Filmmakers Showcase on July 26. The 25-minute film, which chronicles her mother Robin Cecilia Wheat's cancer diagnosis and lifelong devotion to Edwardsville, draws on interviews, family footage and historical records spanning generations.
Crow, a video editor at the St. Louis-based company Splycehouse, began filming in August 2025 after her mother agreed to share her story. The documentary weaves together personal and family history — including a difficult chapter involving financial hardship — while centering on Wheat's resilience and enduring love for her hometown. The documentary will screen in the Documentary Shorts category at the Hi-Pointe Theatre starting at 4 p.m. Fellow SIUE alumnus Levi Kirby, co-owner of Splycehouse, was also involved in the project.
