To kick things off, we're showcasing Kaitlin Lassiegne who has been with NCERC since October 2016 and serves as NCERC's Laboratory Project Manager.

What are your job duties at NCERC?
All things lab
What is something you enjoy about your job at NCERC?
The amazing people I get to work with. From admin staff, lab staff, plant staff, temporary workers, post-docs, fellows and student workers, everyone is so dedicated and works so hard. It is awesome to see.
What does teamwork look like at your job at NCERC ?
NCERC is a close knit group of people who at times feel more like family than coworkers. We are all united by our common goal to succeed at any project that comes our way. There is rarely a project that comes through our doors that everyone hasn't helped out in some way. That may be our administrative staff helping with getting the project going. The lab staff helping with analytical testing. The plant staff helping with equipment or utilities. Everyone has a unique role but we function as a team.
What is an interesting part of your job that external people may not realize that you do?
Working with students. The majority of the laboratory staff is made up of SIUE students. It is humbling to be able to teach and help students grow in their skills to be better scientists.
Without disclosing client information, what has been your favorite project to work on and why? Any project in the Fermentation Suite. It is like an in-between area between the lab and the plant. It is so cool to see the collaboration of the two areas.
What do you love most about your career field?
Being able to think logically and solve problems.

BS and MS in Chemistry
What is something you enjoy when outside of work?
Spending time with my family.
