Philip's Fellowship Program Testimony
Posted March 9, 2023
If you want a degree in the STEM field, always go the extra mile to do two things: learn something new and make a good impression on those around you. Knowledge and experience are worth their weight in gold, and the value of good connections is second to none. Contentedness and complacency is the death of motivation. Step outside your comfort zone in search of opportunity and never hesitate to ask a question.
I chose to work as a Visiting Research Fellow because of the opportunities it presents and the experience that was to be gained. Working a fellowship allows you to test the water before jumping into the deep end of a career. You can find your likes and dislikes, identify your weaknesses and strengths, and see where your interests lie, whether in your initial field or another. As my fellowship draws to a close I have nothing but appreciation for all of those who have helped and guided me along the way. I will definitely be continuing in my field and will always look back at NCERC with fondness.
With the experience I have gained I feel prepared for the career that lies ahead and confident that I chose the right path.

About the Fellowship Program:
The Visiting Research Fellowship and Postdoctoral Research Fellowship programs are an unrivaled learning opportunity for recent graduates of a bachelor’s, master’s, or PhD program who are interested in pursuing a career in research in the bioeconomy. Fellows work under the guidance of two supervisors who provide them with the technical expertise needed to thrive in their research environments and the leadership skills they need to ramp up the trajectory of their careers. This joint supervisory model ensures the connection of theory to practice and builds upon the Fellow’s academic degree through applied, hands-on learning in an industrial setting. This program is designed to prepare the next generation of engineers and scientists for work in high-skill jobs in the bioeconomy. Learn more on our Workforce Training & Education webpage!
