Obtaining Your e-ID (username) and Password
Welcome to SIUE! Your e-ID is your key to logging into campus services and systems. Here's how to get started with it:
Step 1: Apply for your e-ID. In order to obtain the e-ID username, you will need your student identification number, which is included in your admit letter. This is a nine-digit number that begins with 800.
Visit siue.edu/e-id.
- Choose the “I want to get an e-ID” button and click “Continue.”
- Fill in all requested information and click “Continue.” (Please Note: If you encounter errors, check your entry or try without your middle initial)
- The next page explains that you will be sent an email verifying you've completed the activation process after you receive your e-ID and password on the last page.
- Create a secret phrase and a hint that will help you reset your password online if you ever forget it. Once you've set these up, click “Continue.”
- Read through the User Agreement page, select "Agree," and click "Continue."
- On the last page, you will receive your e-ID and a new password for your account. Be sure to take note of your e-ID and password. For security reasons, you will prompted every 365 days to change your password. Your e-ID user name will be with you the entire time you are a student at SIUE. Any SIUE account that uses your e-ID or email address as your username will use the same password as the one you received on the last page. For example, your email address would be "ecougar@siue.edu," and your e-ID would be "ecougar."
Step 2: Updating your password. When your password expires in 365 days, you will want to choose a strong password. Passwords must be a combination of letters and numbers and are case sensitive.
