SIUE’s Mass Comm Week Goes Big with Focus on Artificial Intelligence
The Department of Mass Communications in the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) will host its annual Mass Comm Week from Monday, April 17 to Friday, April 21 on the Edwardsville campus under the theme The Current Role of Artificial Intelligence in Mass Communications. This year’s event will not only engage contemporary issues in the field, but it will also bring to the fore latest and seminal research by mass communications faculty and serve as an opportunity for networking and career planning.
The week kicks off Monday with the First Amendment Free Food Festival from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on the Dunham Hall Patio.
SIUE’s Igor Crk, PhD, associate professor and chair in the Department of Computer Science, will deliver the keynote address on Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. in the Maple-Dogwood Room, Morris University Center.
“Students and guests should expect great presentations from experts,” said Musonda Kapatamoyo, PhD, professor and chair in the Department of Mass Communications. “We also have events tailored for career planning. These panels will feature recently graduated mass communication students who found jobs in the last three years. They will discuss strategies and best practices for getting into the industry. Lastly, we have arranged a sabbatical presentation by Prof. Suman Mishra and The William and Margaret Going Endowed Professorship Award Lecture by Prof. Gary Hicks.”
The event ends on Friday with food, pomp and pageantry in the Maple-Dogwood Room from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.
All events are open to the public. For a full schedule of the week’s events click here.
