Mass Communications Professor Appears on NPR to Discuss Questionable Media Coverage

Gary Hicks, PhD, professor of mass communications, was recently featured on NPR for his views on media ethics and the death of a public figure recently outed in an Alabama news outlet.Hicks is an expert on the representation of LGBTQ and marginalized communities in media. He is also the recipient of the William and Margaret Going Endowed Professorship Award. Established by the late Dr. William Going in honor of his wife Margaret, the award is presented to a faculty member who has produced outstanding scholarship and connected that scholarship in fundamental ways to their teaching and transformed students’ lives.
