Capturing the Moment during SIUE Welcome Weekend and Convocation
As SIUE welcomes our campus community to the fall semester’s first day of classes, August 19, 2024, we share some scenes and moments of gratitude from Welcome Weekend and Convocation.
“Welcoming and supporting our new students from around the globe, across the river, or down the street during Welcome Weekend is critical to the development of their sense of belonging at SIUE. Thank you to the faculty and staff for their efforts in rolling out the red carpet,” said Miriam Roccia, Interim Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs.
“The big moments like Academic Day, Convocation and Cougar Kick-off help strengthen the feeling of community. Less visible are the small moments that often mean the most: an Early Childhood Center teacher’s reassurance as a student parent drops off their child on the first day; a University Housing Facilities Management staff members’ smile when responding to a work order, a point in the right direction when picking up textbooks at Textbook Service, a faculty member's reassurance, or a Dining Services staff members’ simple, ‘Hello, how is your day today?’ It all matters. The big moments. The little moments. Every moment in between.”
Have a safe and productive fall semester, Cougars!
