SIUE Faculty and Staff Check-in with Residents during House Calls
On Tuesday, September 10, faculty and staff members from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville visited first year residents in Bluff, Prairie, and Woodland Halls and transfer students in Cougar Village Apartments. House Calls is designed to engage first-year and transfer students in meaningful conversations with faculty and staff early in their transition to campus life. This initiative offers residents a chance to connect with a welcoming face, creating a sense of support and community. The program was a great success, with numerous campus administrators engaging with residents about their experiences adjusting to on-campus living, academic life, student programs, organizations, and addressing any concerns they may have. This is University Housing’s 21st year hosting this program.
“House Calls are a unique opportunity for campus partners to meet residents in their campus home,” Mallory Sidarous, Director of University Housing said. “This event often results in real and valuable connections and engagement between residents, faculty, and staff. It is a pleasure to host this important program, and a lot of fun to be part of!”
First-year, Prairie Hall resident Claire McGuire stated, “My experience settling in has been great! I have enjoyed all the on-campus events and love how there is always something for people living in university housing to do. I think, for me, the people I’ve met in my hall have made the biggest impact on me. The other first-year students that I have met in Prairie have been awesome and have really gotten me though these first weeks.”
