SIUE Claims Three Titles at First-Ever OVC Fall Invitational
SIUE women's tennis collected two singles titles and a doubles title Sunday at the conclusion of the first-ever Ohio Valley Conference Fall Invitational.
Margaux Guibal Britt and Amelia Gorman earned singles titles at No. 1 and No. 2 singles, respectively.
Guibal Britt bested Fabiana Labrador of Lindenwood 6-4, 4-6, 10-4 and then defeated Paige Grice of Western Illinois in the finals 6-3, 6-4
Gorman won both of her singles matches in straight sets, topping Lara Diniz de Souza 6-3, 6-4 and Michelle Trochez of Lindenwood 6-1, 6-1.
SIUE finished 10-4 overall in singles matches. Cydney Rogers (No. 4), Payton Tomichek (No. 5) and Chloe Koons (No. 6) all placed runner-up at the Invitational.
The Cougars' duo of Koons and Tomichek provided the biggest comeback of the tournament in the title match at No. 3 doubles. Koons and Tomichek were behind 4-0 before coming from behind to defeat Western Illinois' Richardlyne Francois and Denver Johnson 7-6 (7-4).
SIUE completed the tournament 4-2 in doubles matches. Guibal Britt and Paige Duncan placed third at No. 1 doubles.
Next up for the Cougars is the SIUE Invite October 4-5.
