SIUE School of Engineering’s Hurricane Simulation Offers Demo of 150mph Winds on Fox 2 News
Fox 2 News meteorologist Haley Fitzpatrick visited Southern Illinois University Edwardsville prior to Hurricane Milton’s Florida landfall to film simulated high winds manufactured by the School of Engineering’s wind tunnel.
Fitzpatrick interviewed Michael Denn, PhD, instructor of Mechanical Mechatronics Engineering, and Alan Black, PhD, associate professor in SIUE’s Department of Geography and GIS.
“It’s [the wind tunnel] powered by a 300-horsepower variable speed motor and that provides a range of airspeeds. Anywhere from very, very low up to the low 200 miles per hour range,” said Denn.
