SIUE Softball’s Torres, Arwood Honored by OVC
SIUE softball standouts Juztyne Torres and Avery Arwood have been honored for their play at this past weekend's Lion Invitational as the Ohio Valley Conference Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively.
Torres, a freshman from San Antonio, Texas, finished 4 of 8 for the weekend with three extra-bases hits. She made the most of her opportunities at the plate in helping the Cougars go 3-1 for the weekend. Torres hit her first career home run against Rutgers in a 4-1 victory. She also collected three RBIs with a double and a triple in a win over tournament host East Texas A&M. She finished the weekend with 10 total bases and a team-leading .1250 slugging percentage.
Arwood, a freshman from St. Joseph, Michigan, posted a perfect 2-0 weekend with wins over Abilene Christian and Rutgers. She fanned eight and allowed just five hits to Abilene Christian in her first collegiate victory. She followed that win up with a strong outing against Big Ten opponent Rutgers where she allowed just six hits. She completed the weekend with a 1.00 earned run average and 11 strikeouts in 14 innings pitched.
