SIUE’s Lynne Miller Honored with OVC Outstanding Faculty Award for Commitment to Student Success
Lynne Miller, PhD, associate professor in the Department of Chemistry at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, has been named a recipient of the 2025 Ohio Valley Conference (OVC) Outstanding Faculty Award for Commitment to Student Success.
The OVC’s annual award celebrates faculty across the conference who make a lasting impact on students both inside and outside the classroom. Miller was honored alongside fellow recipients during the OVC Basketball Tournament, where award winners were recognized on the arena video boards during their respective schools’ games.
Miller’s dedication to student success earned high praise from student-athletes at SIUE. Including praise from junior tennis standout Cydney Rogers and senior softball catcher Anna Henderson who nominated Miller for this award.
“Dr. Miller is the absolute best professor I have ever had due to her incredible character and teaching ability,” said Henderson. “Every day she brings enthusiasm and energy to a rather challenging chemistry course. She pushed me to evaluate how I studied, giving me skills I will carry into future classrooms and my professional career. Nominating Dr. Miller for this award was an easy decision, and I’m glad she’s getting the recognition she deserves!”
Reflecting on the honor, Miller shared how much the award means to her: “This award means a lot to me because of its focus on student success. I’m very fortunate – I get to teach a class that I love to the hardest-working students in our University. It takes a lot of effort to succeed in organic chemistry. This is especially true for our student athletes. It’s not easy to juggle travel, training, and competition with a heavy course load, particularly for students in the sciences. But year after year, some of my very best students are my student athletes. Their work ethic, self-discipline, and positive attitude always pay off. So, whether they’re heading to med school or to the NCAA tournament, I am always incredibly proud of their accomplishments. I wanted to give a special thanks to Cydney Rogers (tennis) and to Anna Henderson (softball) for their generous nomination for this award.”
Miller’s recognition showcases SIUE’s commitment to teaching excellence and its deep investment in student-centered learning. SIUE proudly congratulates Lynne Miller and all the 2025 OVC honorees for their remarkable contributions to student success.
