Student-Athletes Earn 3.325 Grade Point Average; Extend Streak
For the 38th consecutive semester SIUE student-athletes have achieved a departmental grade point average better than a 3.0. The student-athletes remain consistent and earned a 3.325 this spring, which marks the second semester in a row at or above 3.3.
"We are proud to celebrate the academic achievements of our student-athletes," Director of Athletics Andrew Gavin said. "Our student-athletes continue to make academic success a priority as they balance their demanding schedules. We are thankful for the commitment of our coaches, faculty, and others on campus that support their successes. We are fortunate to have the continued leadership, support, and resources provided by our student-athlete success team of Jaci DeClue, Ashley Beaton Simpson and Lindsey Schmidt."
For the sixth time, women's tennis returned to their post at the top with the highest overall team GPA of 3.757, which is the fifth-highest team GPA achieved by an SIUE program. Volleyball enters the top three for the first time since Fall 2021, earning the second-highest GPA overall and second highest of the women's teams at 3.601. For the fourth semester in a row, women's soccer edged out women's basketball to retain its rank in the top three with a 3.538, which is third overall and third among women's teams.
On the men's side, men's soccer owns the top spot for the second straight semester and is fourth overall with a 3.449. Men's golf, a fixture in the top three for 16 consecutive semesters, takes the second spot with 3.355. Baseball returns to the top three for the first time since Spring 2023 with a 3.164.
Women's basketball posted their second-highest team GPA since transitioning to Division I with a 3.520.
Better than 71 percent of SIUE student-athletes earned a 3.0 or higher and 56 student-athletes earned a perfect 4.0, which is 21 percent of our student-athlete population.
A total of 42 percent of the student-athletes earned Dean's List honors during the spring semester.
For the semester, the women's team average was 3.536. The men's team average was 3.105. Eight out of 14 teams earned over a 3.400.
Three student-athletes have maintained a 4.0 cumulative GPA for at least three consecutive semesters: Spencer Stearns(baseball), Ava Gugliuzza (women's basketball) and Matea Diekema (women's soccer).

The yearly departmental average was 3.326. The men's team's average for the year was 3.159 and the women's was 3.510. For the year, 80 percent of SIUE student-athletes earned over a 3.0 and 85 percent of our student-athletes end the year with a cumulative GPA over 3.0.
