Four Cougars Earn Men's Soccer All-OVC Honors

Four SIUE men's soccer players have been named to All-Ohio Valley Conference teams announced Friday by the league.
Wes Gibson, Evan Howard and Carles Zomeño have each earned First Team honors while Howard joined freshman goalkeeper Noah Scheidweiler on the All-Newcomer team.
For Gibson the honor marks the third consecutive All-OVC selection. Gibson played all but a handful of minutes over the course of the season. He played all 90 minutes in 15 of 17 games. Despite his defensive position, he added a goal and two assists.
Evan Howard led the league the Cougars and the OVC in scoring with 19 points coming on eight goals and three assists. He led the league in total points, points per game, goals and goals per game. Two of his tallies were game winners.
Zomeño started all 17 games for the Cougars and played all 90 minutes in 15 of those games, often logging action from box to box. He was second to Howard in scoring with six points coming on two goals and two assists.
Scheidweiler started all 17 games in goal for the Cougars, playing nearly every minute between the pipes. The true freshman found his footing in Conference play, tying for the league lead with four shutouts in OVC play. His goals against average of 1.00 during league play was third in the league.
SIUE earned a bid to the OVC Tournament for the third consecutive year. The Cougars are the fourth seed and will open tournament play against Western Illinois Sunday at noon. The tournament takes place at Hunter Stadium on the Lindenwood campus.
