OPT Reporting
Post-completion OPT Reporting Requirements
After your EAD card is received and you have accepted employment, you must submit an OPT Reporting form no later than 10 days after the change. Unemployment days will accrue until you have reported an employer.
Your DSO will report your changes to your SEVIS record. Students should log into their SEVP Portal Account to review their employer/contact information for accuracy. Do not make direct updates in your SEVP Portal Account. Allow 2-4 business days for us to update the changes after submitting the OPT Reporting Form.
All students on OPT are required to report the following information within 10 working days:
- Contact Information (name, phone, email address and/or residential address)
- Start/End dates of employment (including volunteering information)
- Employer’s name, address, job title, your supervisor’s name, email address, phone and your employer’s 9-digit Employer Identification Number (EIN) (Ex: 37-0415268) Contact your supervisor or Human Resources department if you do not know the EIN.
- Any periods of unemployment
- Change of immigration status
- Students must explain how this employment is related to your course of study. For additional information see the Employment Reporting Resources and Examples.
Change of Visa Status
Students who have applied for a change of status should continue to maintain their F-1 status(including required reporting) until a decision has been made on their application and the new status becomes effective. Submit an OPT Reporting form after you receive your approval notice to notify us of the change.
