Dr. Mark Luer is the dean of the Southern Illinois University Edwardsville School of Pharmacy, professor in the Department of Pharmacy Practice and a fellow of the American College of Clinical Pharmacy.  Dr. Luer was the first chair for the Department of Pharmacy Practice at SIUE.  Before joining the SIUE School of Pharmacy, he served on the faculties at the University of Illinois Chicago College of Pharmacy and the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences College of Pharmacy.  Dr. Luer earned his B.S. in Pharmacy and Pharm D. degrees from St. Louis College of Pharmacy and he completed a clinical pharmacy residency, a critical care specialty residency, and neuroscience fellowship at the University of Kentucky Medical Center.

From 1993 to 2004, Dr. Luer provided pharmacotherapy services in the neurointensive care units at the University of Illinois and University of Arkansas Hospitals. Practice specialties included the management of subarachnoid hemorrhage, post-traumatic seizures, head and spinal cord injuries, and intracranial hypertension.

From 2004-2012, Dr. Luer served as the inaugural chair of the Department of Pharmacy Practice where his focus was to establish relationships with the professional community and build a dynamic and talented department.

From 2012-2018, Dr. Luer served as the associate dean of professional and student affairs where he specialized in admissions, academic standards and progression, advising, student conduct, student organizations, scholarships and professional licensure.
