Apply for Graduate Faculty Status
This application can be submitted to apply for permanent graduate faculty status (for tenure-track or tenured faculty) or temporary graduate faculty status (for non-tenure track faculty and non-continuous appointments).

The Graduate Faculty shall be tenure track or tenured faculty at SIUE who are accorded Graduate Faculty status upon the recommendation of the graduate faculty of the appropriate department or equivalent academic unit and the Dean of the Graduate School. Approval to teach graduate-level courses by those who are not current Graduate Faculty is covered by Policy 1C10.
Graduate Faculty may teach graduate courses, serve on graduate committees, direct masters theses, chair masters committees, chair doctoral committees, and direct doctoral dissertations. Participation in cooperative doctoral committees with SIU Carbondale requires approval through SIUC.
Approval of Graduate Faculty status is based on the following criteria:
- possession of the appropriate terminal degree
- demonstrated competence in teaching appropriate to the faculty member’s field.
- scholarly accomplishment as evidenced by one or more of the following:
- awarding and completion of one or more peer-reviewed, externally funded projects
- publication of one or more books recognized by colleagues as evidence of scholarly work
- publication of one or more articles in recognized scholarly journals
- other contributions relevant to the field (such as juried performances or exhibitions in the fine arts).
The Dean of the Graduate School administers departmental requests for exceptions to this policy.
Applications and requests for exceptions use the graduate faculty application
The Dean of the Graduate School may revoke graduate faculty status for cause, such as for academic or research misconduct as defined in Policy 1Q5 or at the recommendation of the appropriate department or equivalent academic unit.
