Spending a Summer Day on the SIUE Trails
Posted June 18, 2019
While thinking of things to do this summer, getting some exercise has been on my mind. How about you? Lucky for us, SIUE offers a great, scenic backdrop.
The SIUE Gardens has a half-mile paved loop and a mulch path, which makes it a great place for short walks. It’s filled with lush flowers, beautiful trees, bridges and wildlife peeking out at every corner. Need to take a break? Rest at The Lantern overlooking Turtle Pond. It’s stunning.
If you’re wanting to travel more miles, venture out on the Madison County Transit (MCT) Trails surrounding campus. The trails are perfect for longer walks, rollerblading, bike rides or going on a run. The trails range from 3.1-6.2 miles long and are waiting to be explored. Did I mention you can even bring your dog along with you? On a leash of course! It is asked that you pick up after your pet, but nothing beats some free exercise and quality time with your pooch.
Sometimes, I need a post-workout treat. SIUE offers Kaldi’s located in the Student Success Center. Enjoy coffee, a variety of teas, smoothies and some bakery items.
Time to get out and exercise...by yourself or with friends! I hope you’ll take advantage of these amenities this summer and even snap a few photos while you’re there…I know I do!
