Three Ways to Prepare for Online Courses
Posted July 28, 2020
I was recently notified that four of my five courses would be online this semester. Honestly, it terrified me. Staying motivated to finish online courses is something myself and many others struggle with. Here’s how I plan to tackle some of that lack of motivation and nervousness before it even starts.
- Print out the syllabus as soon as it is posted
I like to print out the syllabus and mark my agenda with every upcoming assignment due date. This makes me feel confident that I won’t miss anything, and I can even finish assignments early...if I choose to do so.
- Email my professors
Forming a relationship with your professors is essential in doing well in your classes, especially if your courses are online. My advice would be to email them and ask what they think you might need in terms of materials and time committed to the specific course. That way you’ll know the exact expectations of the class.
- Determine a set space to study
For some people, studying at home is difficult due to distractions. For others, they prefer to study only in their own space. Having a determined study space clear of clutter and noise helps you stay motivated to get assignments done.
As we are in an unprecedented time, showing grace towards others, like our classmates and instructors, is essential. Let’s start this new semester strong.
