Wisdom Wednesday from Former SIUE Cougars
Posted September 21, 2021
We asked our SIUE alumni, “What tips do you have for the incoming Class of 2025?” As always, they offered some pretty great advice.
- Get involved as much as you can! Find extracurricular groups or organizations. It’s a great way to network and meet others. Take advantage of the many useful resources on campus: Lovejoy Library, SSC, Student Fitness Center - it’s all there to help you succeed! Work hard and learn as much as you can, but always make time to enjoy the whole experience. - Chase
- Do the extra work to get relevant experience. It's tough and tiring, but worth it in the end. It will make a huge difference when it comes to jobs and pay. Make friends with non-traditional students. They were my absolute best mentors because they made the mistakes and had the work experience. It was from them that I had the best direction. Without their advice or taking their advice, I would not be where I am today. - Katia
- Have fun! Try all of the things, even if you aren’t sure about it. That’s when the best and most unexpected things can happen. - Aryn
- You don’t have to take every opportunity, but you should explore each one. You never know where an open door will lead you. - Jeri
- Have fun! Take advantage of the great food! Don’t wait until your junior and senior year to visit the downtown area. Utilize the gym more! Go Cougars! - Humberto
- Take things seriously, but not too seriously. Some of your best friends will come from your college years. Make memories. Don’t drink and drive. - Zach
- Join an organization/club, and if you don’t find one you like, create one! – Tiffany
- Don’t take for granted the privilege of being at a university. The faculty here are incredible. Ask questions. Ask for help if you need it, and be open to all you can learn from those around you! – Heather
Go Cougars!
