Overview

Students pursuing the Master of Science in Chemistry explore advanced topics in chemistry and become proficient in lab techniques and problem-solving skills. Our students have access to state-of-the-art equipment and laboratories in Science West.

This program is offered through the Department of Chemistry in the College of Arts and Sciences.

What can I do with a degree in chemistry?

Students earning a master’s degree in chemistry will be well-prepared to pursue a variety of careers. Our graduates learn skills in the classroom and in research laboratories that ensure they are productive problem solvers throughout their career. Program Format

The program can be completed within a two-year timeframe through a mix of traditional daytime and evening courses.

Hands-on Learning

Faculty members in the Department of Chemistry pursue research interests in their area of expertise. Most faculty members work with groups of graduate and undergraduate students on research projects that lead to publication and funding opportunities. Global Experience

With faculty members from Canada, China, Iran, Italy, Japan, Taiwan and the United States, the master’s program in chemistry at SIUE appeals to both domestic and international students. Our faculty members have experience with international collaboration, and many of our students present their research at internationally recognized conferences.

International graduate students from China, Ghana, India, Iran, Iraq, Nepal, Nigeria, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, as well as many other countries, have realized the value of a master’s degree from SIUE. Many of these students have been able to enroll directly into a PhD program upon completion of their master’s degree.
