Campus Accessibility
Disability Permits
Students who have state-issued permanent or temporary disability hang tags, parking cards or plates must purchase and display an SIUE parking permit in order to use handicap parking spaces on University property. Vehicles with appropriate permits may be parked in handicap spaces only when the individual with a disability is the driver or passenger in the vehicle.
Morris University Center employees with disabilities are expected to park in handicap spaces in Lot B. Rendleman Hall employees with disabilities may park in handicap spaces in Lot C. Please note that a special permit from the State is required to use the metered spaces in Lots B and C.
For short-term problems, 30-day temporary disability permits may be issued by the University. The purchase of a current SIUE permit is also required. A University temporary disability permit does not authorize an individual to park in a space for individuals with a disability. Rather, Parking Services works with ACCESS to provide these individuals with closer, more convenient parking than they would normally have. If the individual has no physician's statement, he or she must first go to Health Service, then to Parking Services. If the student has a physician's statement, he or she may go directly to Parking Services. Should the need persist after 30 days, the individual is required to apply for a State-issued permit.
Individuals are permitted to park in non-wheelchair designated and non-metered spaces, (except those for University vehicles) in lot of choice, except Lot C (metered lot behind Rendleman Hall), at no additional charge. Rendleman Hall and Morris University Center student employees may park in Lot B.

Elevators
In response to recommendations from SIUE's ACCESS Office to remove barriers that negatively affect the free mobility of individuals with disabilities, the south elevator, which provides access to both ITS and Abbot auditorium, can now be used by patrons to travel between the basement and other floors of Lovejoy Library without the use of a key. The north and west elevators will remain keyed.
