About SIUE
SIUE is a nationally recognized university that provides students with a high-quality, affordable education that prepares them for successful careers and lives of purpose to shape a changing world. The university offers more than 350 highly regarded undergraduate, graduate and doctoral degrees and programs and is home to more than 500 international students from close to 60 nations.
Our campus is known for its welcoming and friendly environment. The University offers strong support for international students with admissions, immigration, academic advising, career placement and cultural integration.
Situated on 2,660 acres of beautiful woodland atop the bluffs overlooking the natural beauty of the Mississippi River’s rich bottom land and only a short drive from downtown St. Louis, Missouri, the SIUE campus is home to a diverse student body of nearly 13,000.
Built on the foundation of a broad-based, high-quality education, and enhanced by hands-on research and real-world experiences, the academic preparation SIUE students receive equips them to thrive in the global marketplace and make our communities better places to live.
SIUE awards degrees in undergraduate and graduate programs encompassing the arts, sciences, nursing, education, health, human behavior, business and engineering.

Nationally Recognized for Excellence
- The Carnegie Commission on Higher Education recently upgraded SIUE to the newly created doctoral/professional universities category. SIUE ranks third in research expenditures in this category, according to the National Science Foundation.
- SIUE debuted among the top 30% of doctoral institutions in Washington Monthly’s 2019 National University Rankings. Previously, the University was ranked among the top 100 master’s granting institutions in the nation for nine consecutive years.
- SIUE is first for research expenditures among all Emerging Research Institutions in the Midwest by the National Science Foundation.
- For the 8th consecutive year, SIUE has received the Higher Education Excellence in Diversity award from INSIGHT Into Diversity magazine, the oldest and largest diversity-focused publication in higher education.
- The Princeton Review lists the SIUE School of Business as one of the top business schools in the U.S.
Career Preparation and Success
Students enjoy opportunities to work alongside faculty who are conducting leading-edge research and creative activities. Faculty members from around the world enhance our campus with their diversity in thought, experiences and culture. Many faculty members have been nationally and internationally recognized. SIUE offers numerous resources to help students start their career, including assistance with internship placement and twice-annual career fairs.
Nearly 90% of international students who graduate from SIUE and apply for the Optional Practical Training (OPT) program secure a temporary employment position with a company in the U.S. The SIUE campus is just 25 minutes from downtown St. Louis, Missouri. Students have access to internships and cooperative training opportunities at many technical, industrial and professional companies located in the metropolitan area. SIUE international students have gone on to jobs with IBM, Anheuser-Busch InBev, Emerson, Dell, Nestlé Purina, Bayer, Intel and Microsoft.
