Policies
Grades
Students enrolled in our pathway program are required to pass each level with a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale. If a student achieves less than an overall 2.5 GPA in the IEP, they must repeat the level.
(A=4.0, B=3.0, C=2.0, D=1.0, F=0.0)
Grading Scale
A = 90-100% = impressive work, excellent, complete, on time, exceeds expectations, polished
B = 80-89% = fine work, fulfilling requirements well, complete, meets all expectations, polished
C = 70-79% = average, doing what you need to do, fulfilling requirements adequately, complete, competent, could be more polished
D = 60-69% = needs serious work, possibly incomplete, does not meet expectations, not failing
F = 0-59% = unacceptable, failing
Attendance
Student participation is crucial to success at SIUE and the IEP. Collaboration, group work and contribution of questions, thoughts and ideas are both valued and required in classes.
In order to properly participate, students should attend a minimum of 80% of class hours. Students who do not meet attendance expectations will not be allowed to continue their studies in the IEP.
Probation Policy
Students who fall under the minimum GPA of 2.5 are to be placed on academic probation.
- First failed semester: The student will be placed on academic probation with mandatory monthly check-ins and tutoring with an IEP instructor.
- Second failed semester: The student will be removed from their degree program and the IEP.
Blackboard
All documents pertaining to each course are found in SIUE’s Blackboard online system. Outlook email and Microsoft Teams are also platforms incorporated into classes and should be easily accessible by students.
Academic Integrity
Any paper or project with your name on it or presentation that you deliver signifies that you are the author—that the words and ideas are yours, with the exception of quotation marks, paraphrasing and citations as appropriate. Plagiarism is the unrecognized use of others’ words and ideas. Evidence of plagiarism at SIUE may result in a failing grade for the assignment or the class.
Plagiarism is a serious offence; here is what SIUE specifically says about plagiarism:
“The University recognizes plagiarism as a serious academic offense. Plagiarism, the act of representing the work of another as one's own, may take two forms. It may consist of copying, paraphrasing or otherwise using the written or oral work of another without acknowledging the source, or it may consist of presenting oral or written course work prepared by another as one's own.”
Consequences may follow the procedure outlined below:
- First intentional or unintentional offense: mandatory meeting with your instructor to learn how to avoid plagiarism
- Second intentional or unintentional offense: failure of the assignment
- Third intentional or unintentional offense: potential failure of the entire semester. The student must repeat the entire semester of courses.
