International Experiences
The Department of Applied Communication Studies encourages its students to consider engaging in international travel study during their time at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. Study abroad can broaden your intellectual horizons, increase your capabilities needed for professional engagements in today’s globalized world, and improve your employment potential. Study abroad at SIUE can be pursued either for a semester or during a summer session and can take the form of either a faculty-led course or a curriculum completed through a partner organization. For additional information, visit Study Abroad.
Another international engagement opportunity available at SIUE is the Peace Corps Prep Certificate. Through specific courses, many of which Applied Communication Studies majors may already be taking or planning to take, along with 50 hours of approved field experience, students earn a certificate from the Peace Corps. This certificate, while it does not guarantee it, can greatly enhance the student's chances for acceptance into the U.S. Peace Corps upon graduation.
