The MPA program expects these numbers to change over the next few years as it has altered the manner in which it offers courses. To assist in meeting the needs of today’s students, the MPA has been redesigned to fit into a schedule that allows courses to be taken at an accelerated pace without overburdening students. The MPA now offers courses that fit within an eight-week pattern in the fall and spring, a five-week pattern in the summer, and three-week courses in the Winter Term and May.
This allows even a part-time student to take multiple courses in a semester but does not require them to be taken in the same timeframe. If a part-time student were to take only one course in each of the periods that courses are offered in an academic year, the student will have completed eight of the required 13 courses for the MPA degree. This translates to a part-time student now being able to complete the MPA in as few as 18 months. A full-time student may now complete the degree in as few as 12 months.
The Department’s expectation is that graduation rates will rise, as will persistence and retention rates. Additionally, the Department expects to see more full-time students completing the degree in 12-18 months and part-time students completing the degree in 18-24 months.
