The criminal justice studies program conducts a study abroad trip each May to include such places as Amsterdam and The Hague, Ireland and Northern Ireland, and Prague and Berlin.
Amsterdam and The Hague
The study tour in The Netherlands focuses on the Criminal Justice system. This tour involves study of the police, court system, correctional system, and the Dutch method of addressing victimless crimes. Students interact with Dutch police officers, correctional workers, the Dutch court system, and community agencies addressing issues related to drugs and prostitution.
Some of the locations we visit include: Prostitution Information Center, Red-Light District, Young-in-Prison Program, International Courts of Justice, Europol, Anne Frank House, Amsterdam Dungeon, Rijksmuseum, Prison Gate Museum, Dutch Court System, and Cannabis College.
Ireland and Northern Ireland
The study tour in Ireland/Northern Ireland focuses on the Criminal Justice system. This tour involves study of the police, court system, and correctional system of Ireland and Northern Ireland. Interaction will be had with Irish police officers, prison facilities, the Irish court system and the Irish Parliament. While in Northern Ireland we will examine issues related to terrorist activities, as well.
Some of the locations we will visit include: Crumlin Road Gaol, the Police Service of Northern Ireland, Criminal Courts of Justice in Dublin, Trinity College, Kilmainham Gaol, Giant’s Causeway and Carrick-a-rede Rope Bridge, Belfast Murals and Peace Wall.
Prague and Berlin
The study tour in Prague and Berlin focuses on the Criminal Justice system. This tour involves study of the police, court system, and correctional system of Prague and Berlin. Interaction will be had with police officers, prison facilities, and the court system and services, and we will examine issues related to their unjust justice systems of the past.
Some of the locations we will visit include: Old Town, Prague Castle Charles University, Academy of Justice, Museum of Communism, Criminal Courts of Berlin, German Parliament, Stasi Museum, German Resistance Museum, and Plotzensee Memoriam Center.
