Research Interests
Dr. Verrochi’s primary area of research lies at the intersection of speech act theory and feminist responses to hate speech. She has worked to develop a response to hate speech that employs the Gricean notion of conversational implicature as a form of recourse meant to fall somewhere in between legislation and counter-speech. Her peripheral interests include wondering about what keeps us the same person over time and change, the nature of consciousness, and what both mean for issues of life and death (such as those that arise when considering the moral dimensions of abortion and euthanasia). She loves to discuss pop culture and philosophy — especially fiction and film!
