Mission
The Center for Crime Science and Violence Prevention (CCSVP)’s primary mission is to contribute to understanding and preventing crime and violence in the Greater St. Louis region and Southern Illinois. We are committed to an interdisciplinary approach to fulfill this mission and believe this is best accomplished through strong academic-agency-community partnerships that promote evidence-based practices that will contribute to growing fairness in the criminal justice process.
The criminal justice system plays a critical component in crime prevention, but CCSVP recognizes that many stakeholders must play an active role to truly achieve justice for all those impacted by crime and violence. In addition to our core mission, the Center will support the needs of the larger Justice Center complex in Belleville, including Illinois State Police’s Forensic Institute, SILEC, and the Institute for Community Justice and Racial Equity.
CCSVPs main roles are to assist communities with data-informed policy development, crime analysis, grant writing, training and technical assistance (TTA), consulting and (evaluation) research. We always welcome inquiries about your community’s needs and offer many services for free.
CCSVP also works with and provides opportunities to students and faculty at SIUE and other regional universities. With a particular eye on workforce development, we provide internship and research opportunities related to data analytics and geospatial analysis. If you are a student or working with students, please email ccsvpbelleville@siue.edu for more information.
