Waiver Process
Students who can provide sufficient proof of acceptable health coverage can submit a waiver request to Academic Health Plans (AHP). Before you submit a waiver request you will need to confirm your SIUE email account with AHP.
Students approved for Fall term, will not need to submit a waiver for Spring or Summer terms in the same academic year.
Fall waiver period is open May 30, 2025 - September 5, 2025
Enrollment Process
For students who want to enroll in the student health plan prior to the end of the waiver period you will need to enroll on the Academic Health Plan (AHP) site. Login and click the “I want to enroll” button and follow the instructions. Your enrollment will become active within 48 hours from enrollment, within the coverage period. All students who do not have an approved waiver by the end of the waiver period will have their insurance activated the week after the waiver period ends.
Financial Aid
Student health insurance is included as a component of the estimated expenses in the University cost of attendance. While it is mandatory for students to have health insurance coverage, financial aid may be available to help cover the expense. Students who can provide sufficient proof of acceptable health coverage will have the opportunity to go through a waiver process. Including health insurance as part of the estimated expenses ensures that students are aware of the potential cost and can make informed decisions about their health coverage options while attending SIUE.
