Inside & Outside the Classroom

The core mission of SIUE and the Center for Predictive Analytics places a heavy emphasis on student success both inside and outside the classroom. We believe that providing our students with the skill sets that are required of them in the workforce will promote economic growth in our region. We work with students of all ages, from grade school to the workforce and are happy to modify our instructional offerings based on your specific needs. 

Education and training is only one part of what we do, though. We want to work with our local communities to continue to make the St. Louis Metropolitan Area a phenomenal place to live and work. We are always eager to work with our local communities to support their sustainable growth and development.

• Continuing Education and Workforce Training

• • • Data Science Bootcamp: Working in partnership with the Office of Online and Educational Outreach, we offer a variety of continuing education and workforce training options. The most popular of these is our Data Science Bootcamp series. This online professional development program is designed for working professionals who want to advance their careers with training in data analytics. We start with the basics of data analysis in Excel, quickly move into R programming and data analysis, and end the year with machine learning. SIUE's Data Science Bootcamp series is:
      • Completely online to accommodate the schedule of the working professional.
      • Broken into a series of 5 courses so that students may jump in and out as their professional and personal interests desire. 
      • Leads to certification in 5 distinct areas of data analytics and data science. 
      • Working through the Office of Educational Outreach, we will offer a continuing education program for working professionals that leads to Badging in Data Analytics beginning in the 2021-22 academic year. What is badging?

• Online Tutorials - All of our Data Science for All workshop resources are available to the public: Data Science for All Workshop Resources

• • Our workshops can cover a variety of topics, including data organization, analysis and visualization, as well as working in programs like Excel, R, SAS, SPSS, Python, you name it. Our workshops can be tailored to industry, academia or government settings.

• K-12 - Are you interested in establishing a data analytics or statistics course? Inviting a guest speaker? Designing an experiment using computers and data? Developing curriculum? We do all the above! 

• Tracking Student Success - What are the critical points in a student’s educational career that dictate whether or not that student will successfully complete their college education? Is there a way to provide additional support to students at these critical time points? What metrics indicate that a student may need additional support upon entering college? We are partnering with Enrollment Management and its Office of Undergraduate Admissions to better understand when and how to best support our students as they embark on their educational and career pathways. 

• Internship Opportunities - Whether completed on or off-campus, internships are a great way for students to gain marketable, real-world skills and make connections. We both work with employers to establish internships on SIUE’s campus and serve as a pipeline for student placement with our industry and government partners.
