Accessible Campus Community and Equitable Student Support (ACCESS)
As SIUE continues forward to operationalize inclusive excellence, accessibility is a core dimension of these efforts. We have much work to do to ensure that our policies, practices, and procedures are truly inclusive and that all members of our campus community can fully participate, engage, and benefit from every opportunity. Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion's Office for Accessible Campus Community and Equitable Student Support (ACCESS) serves a pivotal role in advancing this mission-critical work at SIUE.

Equal Opportunity, Access and Title IX Coordination
SIUE is committed to developing and maintaining a campus climate that acknowledges, embraces and celebrates diversity and inclusion as a core value of the community.
At the University and within the Equity, Diversity and Inclusion division, the Office for Equal, Opportunity, Access and Title IX Coordination (EOA) performs a central role in this endeavor. The office is primarily responsible for promoting and fostering an inclusive campus environment by ensuring campus-wide compliance with various federal, state, and local fair employment laws and regulations. However, other responsibilities include creating, revising and implementing policies, protocols and practices supportive of belonging and the overall well-being of community members.

Immersive Meaningful Practices for Accountable Campus Transformation (IMPACT) Academy
The IMPACT Academy, SIUE's main source for equity, diversity, and inclusion training and professional development, engages faculty and staff as catalysts and leaders in transforming SIUE into an environment where racism and all other forms of bias are not tolerated. IMPACT Academy Trainers support campus colleagues with cultivating a more equitable and inclusive learning environment for our students and working environment for our faculty and staff.
IMPACT offers access to dynamic and purposefully developed educational opportunities that raise awareness and understanding about social differences and inequity, establish shared language and definitions supportive of institutional alignment, and equip each of us with the skills and knowledge needed to do the work of inclusive excellence and anti-racism at SIUE and beyond.

Student Opportunities for Academic Results
The first dimension of SIUE’s Inclusive Excellence Framework is Access and Success. This component of the framework is not only a directive to improve the demographic diversity of the University but also to make sure that as we do, the necessary supports are in place and resources available to position every member of the campus community for success.
This is especially important as we consider current and future students. As we reduce barriers and continue to expand opportunities for access to an SIUE education, especially to those from historically underserved communities, it is critical that we are just as committed to cultivating an inclusive and equity-minded campus environment and to addressing equity gaps in student outcomes.
At SIUE, Student Opportunities for Academic Results (SOAR) has been an institutional leader in providing an array of services and programming to support the engagement, retention and graduation of historically underrepresented students.

Truth, Racial Healing and Transformation Campus Center
As SIUE continues its journey toward anti-racism and inclusive excellence, it is important that we do so in full recognition that as a university we do not and should not exist and operate apart from the communities in which we live and work. We must act, be a model for change and dedicate ourselves to shaping a changing world by enriching communities with a nexus to our campus.
One of the dimensions of SIUE’s Inclusive Excellence Framework is Community Engagement. This dimension calls for the University to address systemic inequality and improve outcomes for underserved populations in surrounding communities.
In January 2020, the Association of American Colleges & Universities (AAC&U) named SIUE as one of 13 new institutions selected to host a Truth, Racial Healing and Transformation (TRHT) Campus Center. SIUE officially launched its Center in September 2020. An initial group of 10 institutions was selected by AAC&U in 2017.
One of the goals of TRHT campus centers is to “prepare the next generation of strategic leaders and critical thinkers to break down racial hierarchies and dismantle the belief in the hierarchy of human values.” Facilitating students’ co-participation alongside community members as agents of social change is not only in alignment with SIUE’s mission, values and strategic plans, but also comprises a key aspect of the work of the Equity, Diversity and Inclusion division.
