National Accreditation
The Department of Applied Health offers a variety of degrees in the health sciences to prepare students for careers in numerous fields. Many of our programs are nationally accredited and taught by award-winning faculty. Both undergraduate and graduate students benefit from experiential learning opportunities in classes, laboratories, clinics, internships, and international travel study.
Exercise Science and Exercise Physiology Accreditation
All necessary accreditation standards mandated by the Committee on Accreditation for the Exercise Sciences (CoAES) were met by the Exercise Science and Exercise Physiology programs in the fall of 2013. Both programs were subsequently accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) in the summer of 2014 and is one of only 5 percent of programs nationally to have earned this accreditation and acclaim (list of program outcomes). We are the only accredited program in the state of Illinois. The programs report outcomes annually to CoAES. For example, over the last 3 academic years, the undergraduate Exercise Science Program reported a 98% retention rate and a graduate placement rate of 82%. Over the last 3 academic years, the graduate Master of Science program in Exercise Physiology reported a 95% retention rate and a graduate placement rate of 92%.

A new program that has been determined to be eligible to enroll students or accepting interns as the result of an on-site evaluation visit, but has not had a graduating class may be granted candidate status. The granting of candidate status denotes a developmental program, which is expected to mature in accord with stated plans and within a defined time period. Reasonable assurances are expected to be provided that the program may become accredited as programmatic experiences are gained, generally, by the time the first class has graduated. Graduates of a class designated as having candidate status have the same rights and privileges as graduates of an accredited program.
