Employee Benefits
Retirement and Financial Planning
SIUE offers an excellent retirement package to help you plan for the future. As an employee, you will participate in the State Universities Retirement System (SURS), rather than Social Security. In addition to your retirement contributions, the State of Illinois contributes a percentage of your salary into your retirement account. SURS offers several choices for retirement plans.
Employee and Dependent Education Benefits
One of the most valued benefits of employment at SIUE is the education benefit offered to you and your dependents. As an employee, you may be eligible for a full waiver of tuition, exclusive of fees, to continue your education. SIUE also offers a 50 percent waiver of tuition to your dependents if you have provided at least seven years of service. This benefit, which is transferable to any public university in the State of Illinois, will be extended to the dependent for up to 130 credit hours or until he or she reaches the age 25.
Paid Leave
Detailed leave eligibility and accrual rates are specific to each position and employment classification, but most employees earn 12-25 vacation days and at least 10 sick days per year. SIUE also provides holiday and administrative closure days, and other leave options including FMLA, jury duty, funeral leave and military leave.
Employee Discount Programs
SIUE employees enjoy discounts from many vendors, both locally and nationally. From car services to wireless services, local restaurants and more, you can save big just by showing your employee Cougar Card.
Life and Supplemental Insurance
SIUE helps you plan for the unexpected by offering flexible spending programs as well as a selection of supplemental insurance options:
- Cancer, critical illness and accidental injury
- Long-term disability
- Life insurance equal to your annual basic salary with additional options available
Other Programs and Services
Other programs and services including adoption benefits and quality childcare options, employee assistance counseling programs, smoking cessation programs, and WorkLife programs are also available.
Benefits eligibility varies by position and employment classification. For more information on the SIUE benefits package and your eligibility for specific benefits, contact the Office of Human Resources Benefits Department at 618-650-2190.
