Richard Burns had 38 years of experience working with McDonnell Douglas and Boeing Co. on research and development of advanced structures and electronic materials for military aircraft until retiring in 2020. He worked on several advanced aircraft development programs for the Air Force, Navy and NASA as well as managing contracted and internally-funded research and development. Mr. Burns helped develop composite structures, high-temperature ceramic matrix composites and electronic materials for special airframe applications.
Prior to working in the aerospace industry, Mr. Burns worked for the Advanced Reactors Division of Westinghouse Co. on fuel materials testing for breeder reactors. He began his career working on automotive coating systems for the Chrysler Corporation. Richard graduated from Purdue University, West Lafayette, IN with an MS degree in Materials Science Engineering and a BS in Chemistry.
