On October 15 at 6pm, ASHRAE was honored to have Colin Hale from Cannon Design in Greater St. Louis as their guest speaker. Colin shared his insights on industry trends and design innovations. The Mechanical and Mechatronics Engineering Department celebrated its 35th anniversary

Alumni, faculty, staff, and students had the opportunity to reflect on the department’s achievements since its inception in 1989. The event was held in the Enterprise Holdings Foundation Atrium in the Engineering Building on October 24, from 5 to 8 p.m.

Three SIUE Mechanical and Mechatronics Engineering students received ASHRAE Scholarships at the St. Louis ASHRAE Awards Night on Monday, April 15th. SIUE ASHRAE Student Chapter President Iretomiwa Idowu received the Charles E. Henck Scholarship. Rick Burns and Darrin Feather of the department's Industrial and Professional Advisor Committee (IPAC) invited engineering firm Burns and McDonnell employees Isaac Hausman and Matt Waters, MME alumni, to a present information to students about career fields available through their employer. Dr. Siyuan (Simon) Xing, alumnus of SIUE, received 2023 Lockheed Martin Endowed Professorship Award in the California Polytechnic State University at San Luis Obispo. Dr. Xing received M.S. in 2016 from SIUE, and PhD in 2019 from SIUE-SIUC cooperative program. Good news for the MME department! Our student, Kimberly Roskamp received the 2nd place award at the ISPE Student Poster Contest with her URCA study. Kimberly has been enthusiastic about renewable energy since her freshmen year and has completed her UG degree successfully. In the 2023 Provost's Celebration of Research Reception held on April 4, 2023, the graduate school announced two patents to the SIUE community, both of them has contributions by the Department of Mechanical and Mechatronics Engineering. MRE student Ugo Eleonu participated in TheOther40 competition this year and won 2nd Prize, with a $3,000 in prize money.

Southern Illinois University Edwardsville School of Engineering (SOE) students received global recognition at the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) 2022 Design Competition. Chris Couch received his mechanical engineering degree from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville in 2019 and since then has seen great success in his career in the pumping industry.
